It is with huge sadness that we announce the death of Councillor Harbans Singh Sarohi, Councillor for Pleck Ward and Deputy Mayor of Walsall MBC, who passed away over the weekend.
Councillor Sarohi represented the Pleck ward for 21 years and was respected by all the communities of Alumwell, Birchills and Pleck, many of whom affectionately addressed him as ‘uncle’.
He was an exceptionally hard-working Councillor and was a constant figure in Pleck politics for over two decades, putting the welfare of the people of Pleck Ward first and foremost in his work. His service to the communities across the ward and to the entire Borough is an example to us all and it will never be forgotten.
Together with his ward colleagues, Councillor Khizar Hussain and Councillor Naheed Gultasib, Councillor Sarohi ensured the voice of Pleck residents was always heard at all levels of the Council.
Councillor Sarohi particularly spoke out when it came to inappropriate developments in the area as he was a long-standing member of the Planning and Development Committee and the Licensing and Safety Committee.
Councillor Sarohi will be remembered as a man of integrity, principle and someone who was a true gentleman.
He was also a devoted husband, loving father and proud grandfather. His family were always the most important thing in his life, and our deepest condolences go out to them.
Councillor Sarohi’s legacy of exceptional duty to the people of Alumwell, Birchills and Pleck will always be an example to all of us and something that will not be forgotten.
Rest in peace dear Uncle Sarohi.
