At the first full council meeting of 2020 held on Monday 6th January Councillor Richard Worrall (Rushall-Shelfield) presented a petition to council of over 3,000 signatures regarding the Highfields South Landfill Site, in Walsall Wood. The petition started by a local resident in Walsall Wood states that residents and businesses near the landfill site are having to suffer and put up with noxious odours coming from the facility.

The noxious odours coming from the site can be smelt not just in the Walsall Wood and Rushall-Shelfield area, but also from as far away as Pelsall, Brownhills, Clayhanger and Aldridge. The petition jointly calls on Walsall Council and the Environment Agency to take urgent action over this issue.

This issue is having a profound effect on local residents and also local businesses who have reported a loss of trade, and having to keep windows and doors constantly closed.

The petition is due to be debated at the next full council meeting on Thursday 27th February at 6pm in the Council Chamber at Walsall Council House. Members of the public are welcome to attend and hear the petition being discussed.
