Walsall Post Office is to be moved from its current location in Darwall Street to the corner of a shop within the “Retail Multiples” shopping centre formerly BHS in Park Street on the 10th October 2019.
Very few people have responded or are were aware of the public consultation. In fact only 55 people have responded.
Moving Walsall’s main post office will leave another of the town’s buildings empty. The future of the existing post office has not been decided. The relocation of the post office also leaves the fate of the war memorial in the branch uncertain.
The new location will have only five serving points, which is a significant reduction from the current number, despite there being regular queues in the current post office. The proposal document states that “A wide range of services will still be available at the branch” without committing to exactly which services will be maintained and which will be lost.
There is currently a petition running on change.org to help save Walsall’s Post Office, and not let this become another empty building in our town. Please make your voices and opinions heard and support the petition against the relocation:
