On Thursday 1st August 2019 Walsall Labour supported the Universal Credit Day of Action organised by Unite Community Walsall Branch in Walsall Town Centre.
Unite Community members, Activists and Walsall Labour councillors spoke about the damaging effects of the government’s roll-out of Universal Credit across the country and throughout Walsall.
This policy is leading to hunger for many of our less fortunate children and their families during school holiday, with many having to choose between feeding their children and paying their household bills.
Some children are not even getting one square meal at lunch time during the school holidays.
The Walsall Unite Community Branch, Walsall Labour, and the Labour Party want to end this poorly implemented, ill thought, and very damaging programme.
Shoppers signed a petition asking for Walsall Council to set up a single access point where those in need can get advice. This has already been implemented by Wolverhampton City Council and needs to be setup in Walsall.
Walsall Labour Leader Councillor Aftab Nawaz, Cllr Saiqa Nasreen, Walsall North Parliamentary Candidate Gill Ogilvie, and activists from all three Walsall Constituency Labour Parties (Walsall South, Walsall North & Aldridge-Brownhills) worked with Walsall Unite Community members to help spread the message.
Councillor Nawaz and the Walsall Labour councillors will make sure that the petition signed by Walsall residents will be heard and taken to the Council chamber.
