A new leadership team has been selected by Walsall Labour to stand up for residents in the borough.
Councillor Aftab Nawaz was elected as Labour Group Leader in a meeting of Labour Councillors after the Local Elections earlier this month. Councillor Nawaz will become the first Asian leader of the Labour Group in Walsall. Councillor Khizar Hussain was also elected Deputy Group Leader.
Speaking to Birmingham Live, Councillor Nawaz said:
“I’m humbled and very proud to be elected as leader of Walsall Labour group, which has a long history to great work in the borough.
“We have a job to do and we will be a strong and robust opposition to the Tories both locally and nationally.
“I will now do everything I can to fight the Tories but the battle will be on policies rather than on personalities.
“We are positive and we are going to be a good and hard opposition working for the people of Walsall.”
